Participants
4.1 Each player is responsible for his or her own actions, The Team Captain(s) shares the responsibility of the entire team’s conduct. Any players who are abusive, in language or physical actions, to players, officials/Umpires or local residents, during pre-game, game or post game at league diamonds & facility will face suspension, &/or probation or expulsion from the league! Additional NSA disciplinary may occur. https://nsacanada.ca/notices/ If a person wishes to have an issue addressed, they must do so through their respective Captains!
4.1.1 ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER AND AGREE TO THE WAIVER THEMSELVES each season, prior to playing any games within the WOS League. ALL PLAYERS MUST USE A UNIQUE EMAIL ADDRESS “Player Carding & Registration” Form: https://nsacanada.ca/player- carding-registration/
4.1.2 Insurance coverage available via NSA. Note: must complete Waiver registration for eligibility. Claims form and Information: https://www.toolepeet.com/existing-client-service/nsa
4.1.3 Playoff (September): SEVEN (7) games, regular season minimum is required to qualify. Review and Verification https://nsacanada.ca/player-search/ (One game against each team in your tier is preferred) Exception: A pregnancy, significant injury or illness is the only exception! Notify League Official, if player wishes to be available!
4.2 Captain(s) / Managers (Captain along with 2 co-Captains is recommended) Designated Captain/co-Captains will be added to your team “Manager” list by the League official.
4.2.1 Roster Entry: see NSA Team Manager Instructions document
4.2.2 Assure all participating players have been added to your NSA roster prior to playing any games within the WOOS League. Player Carding & Registration https://nsacanada.ca/player- carding-registration/ Review and Verification https://nsacanada.ca/player-search/ (This allows players to take full advantage of NSA Insurance Coverage)
4.2.3 The team captain(s) shares the responsibility of the entire team’s conduct.
4.2.4 If any issue requires addressing during a course of a game, will be addressed to the game Umpire to resolve the issue! If Umpire or both captains cannot resolve the issue, then the League Official can be requested to intervene.
4.2.5 Responsible for fielding a full team, at designated time and diamond. (See rule 5.8 for player # & eligibility) (See rule 5.4 for forfeiture)
4.2.6 The Captain is responsible for the batting line up. See Rule 5.12 for batting line requirements!
4.3 Winning team, Captain(s) required to enter final score within 24 hours on Teamsnap.
4.4 Rescheduling game due to rainouts. (see rule 4.6 or 4.6.1 for Rain-out) Note: To reschedule a “RAINOUT” game! - Please BOTH Teams advise the League Convener or Scheduler your game was rainout within 24 hours to start the refund process. Email: ______ Also Note: The league will get reimbursed for rainout games or timeslots & uses those funds to secure a date/diamond for your rescheduled game. No notification of your Rain-out within 24 hours, no re-scheduling can occur “no funds available”, a 7-7 tie will be recorded. Scheduler will pick the best date available with minimal inconveniences to both teams. Scheduler will email notify your reschedules game date/diamond & update your Teamsnap individual schedule at next update.
4.5 Rescheduling games due to a conflict. One per team max. - Please advise the League convener at least month prior to your schedule game. ~ Note: The league can get reimbursed for games within a 30 day notice.
4.6. Rain-Outs -Rain-out before the game begins. (Extreme or consistent Rain falling >8 hours.) a) The League Official will inspect the designated diamond on game day between 3:00 and 4:00 pm and notify via email the participating teams that the game shall be postponed due to the inclement weather. ~ To achieve an advance cancellation after 4:00 pm, this will require participating team members to visually inspect the diamond and claim “the diamond is not playable”, plus supply images to request a cancellation from the League Official
b) If there NO communication from League Official before the game begins, both teams must show up at the softball diamond or risk defaulting the game. ~ After 4:00 pm Umpires are dispatched and will determine if the condition and/or the diamond is playable. ~ Later games >7:30pm will get GAME DAY updates pending feedback from 6:00 or 6:15 pm starts.
4.6.1 Rain-Out during the game Once a game begins, the Umpire will call the game due to inclement weather (fog, rain, lightning tornado, and/or darkness). If a game is rained out before the teams complete five full innings, the game will be rescheduled. If at least five full innings have been played when the game is rained out, the game is completed, and the final score shall be the score at the end of the last complete inning.
4.7 BASE COACHES RESPONSIBILITY. An Offensive team coach (base coach) is a member of the team at bat who takes his place on the field, within the coach's box.
4.7.1 Two coaches are allowed to give words of assistance and direction to the members of their team while at bat.
4.7.2 One shall be stationed near first base and one near third base (in foul territory) and they are obligated to stay within the confines of their respective coach's box. EXCEPTION: A coach may leave the coach's box to signal a runner to slide, advance or return to a base, or move out of a fielder's way as long as he does not interfere with the play.
4.7.3 A base coach may address only his own team members.
4.7.4 Coaches may not use language that will reflect negatively upon players, umpires or spectators.
4.7.5 Umpires WOOS will supply SPO or NSA one carded Umpire for all Regular Season, Tournament & Playoff Games. Designated Umpire is a League representative and will have full control of all events occurring within that game. Exception: If a designated Umpire failed to show, self-Umpire your game will occur. The team at bat,supplies two umpires who must know and understand all the Softball League rules. The home umpire rules over home plate and third base while the first base umpire rules over first and second bases. Both umpires are responsible for the outfield. If an umpire is unsure or is questioned by the opposing Captain on a call, he or she may confer with their Captain(s) or teammates. “The Umpire makes the final call not the captain(s)
4.8 SUBSTITUTES no substituting players in a batting line up, once the game has started! Exception: a) Late arriving players shall be added to the bottom of list. b) If a player is injured (can’t continue) or exits early, the player's name is deleted from batting order! c) If a player is not available and has already batted once in the game, the next player on the batting order shall bat! The batter may bat next time, at their next available turn! NOTE: If batting line up does not meet male/female batting ratio requirements of rule 5.12, Then reconfigure to meet requirements, but the male players must be maintained in the same order
4.9 If the illegal player is discovered while at bat: i) a legal substitute or the original starting player assumes the ball and strike count, and ii) any advance of runners while the illegal player is at bat is legal.
4.9.1 If the illegal player is discovered after completing his turn at bat and prior to the next pitch: i) the illegal player is called out, and ii) any advance of runners as a result of an obstruction, an error, a hit batter, a walk or base hit is nullified.
4.9.2 If the illegal player is discovered after completing his turn at bat and after the next pitch, no player is out and any advance by runners while the illegal batter was at bat is legal.
4.9.3 Courtesy Runners can be requested only after a runner has safely reached a base! Must be the last player called out and of the same sex as the player being replaced. Must notify the opposing Captain of the substitution. A maximum of 3 courtesy runners per game unless additional agreed upon by the captains.
4.10 FOR DEFENSIVE TEAM: A defensive team may freely substitute any player, for how many times they wish over a course of a game! A Captain must call time & must be granted time, if substitution is occurring during a defensive situation. Must maintain male/female ratio requirements, see rule 5.8!
4.11 SPARE(S) ~ is an individual that has played less than 7 regular season games with one team. Players changing teams or sparing (affiliation) on other WOOS teams.
4.11.1 Teams may use non-Roster players for WOOS Regular Season & Tournament play, but must apply to 4.11.3 4.11.2 Spares can NOT participate in WOOS Playoff (September) unless they meet requirements as per rule 4.1.4
